The British Chamber of Commerce Kenya (BCCK) Public-Private Dialogue on Business Integrit

Challenge

BCCK wanted to promote improvements into local market conditions through dialogue between Kenya and the UK Governments, based on insights from businesses across three main areas-Greater transparency in public procurement, The provision of Kenya Bribery Act guidelines to ease implementation for businesses, and Identifying ways and means to incentivize businesses operating with integrity. 

Our work

  • We built an agenda and speaker list to frame the issues and the Government response. 
  • We conducted soundings with UK and Kenyan anti-corruption bodies and officials to ensure there was broad support for the Forum. 
  • We developed invitations and managed an attendees list from the BCCK membership, KEPSA, and European Business Council Kenya. 
  • We co-hosted a virtual meeting with KPMG and managed the facilitation and in-meeting engagement between attendees and speakers. 
  • We produced and distributed a report of key actions that can be implemented by the integrity teams within the member associations, the Kenya Government and FCDO.

Impact 

  • The Forum produced an outcomes report which highlighted the need for more evidence from the private sector on the drivers of corruption and integrity levers for use by businesses, government and development partners.  
  • The Chamber was able to apply for funding from FDCO to conduct a business survey of its 250+ members from April -May 2022.  
  • The initiative culminated in the Government of Kenya signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Chamber of Commerce Kenya (BCCK) in July 2022, to promote Kenya’s business climate reforms agenda.
